Looking back at two months of sofatutor international

Two months ago, sofatutor went international!
On September 5th, we sat in front of our screens in anticipation as Chris, Engineering Manager in Team Green, kicked off the final technical implementation of the US website. Closely after, sofatutor also went online in the UK. How are Jane the owl and Popcorn the penguin doing in these new worlds? Today we look at how sofatutor is doing internationally, getting some first-hand information from Team Content and Marketing. What have our international teams been working on and what else is planned for this year?

After working as a classroom teacher for three years, Rachael joined sofatutor as a Content Writer on the US team this August as she was looking for a job outside the traditional classroom. She now takes responsibility for the elementary school videos, curriculum development and planning, and is moreover involved in SEO-focused writing and the review of her team members’ work. ‘I really like working with sofatutor because I can still make an impact on students and I love the ability to be creative’, she describes her wide range of tasks.

In the context of internationalization, video writers from the US and UK work on content for oversea markets together with constantly growing audio, motion design, and illustration teams. After mainly focusing on the production of videos and practice content in math and ELA (English Language Arts) for the launch, the teams now work on more subjects such as social studies and science. External US authors support the team in further expanding internal content production.
Getting bigger as well as more experienced and proficient in the production of elementary school content, a big project this year is the conceptualization of middle school content as well. Soon sofatutor will also internationally offer content for grades 5-8. Middle school students might be ‘too cool’ for the existing cute sofatutor characters and request new formats, which will be out for testing in a minute.

Still, even the best and most suitable product needs someone to get it out there, because:
‘People don’t know what they want until it’s offered to them’ (Terence Conran)

In order for the work of the international content team to pay off, it therefore is necessary to first draw the attention of US and UK students, teachers and parents to our E-Learning products. To do so, on September 6th sofatutor’s first marketing campaign was kicked off in the US. A good week later the first UK campaign followed. Casandra started as our first International Growth Marketing Manager only a few days after. Together with other international marketeers and members of the DACH marketing team she uncovers international marketing opportunities and works out which channels, concepts and strategies work best for sofatutor in the US and UK. While we internationally reach out to more people week by week via familiar channels, it will be interesting getting to know and test US and UK specific channels as well. Learning more about the overseas markets and gaining expertise since sofatutor’s launch in September, within the next month further research and testing will be ongoingly important, to develop new patterns and international marketing strategies.

If you want to be part of our growing team and experience first-hand how sofatutor is developing (international), we look forward to getting to know you, whether you are based in Berlin or on the other side of the globe! On our website, you can easily apply online.
